Sugako Takasaka

A native of Japan, Sugako studied the art of pâtisserie, cakes, pastries and confections at Le Cordon Bleu, and perfected her sugar-craft technique through apprenticeships with Master Colette Peters in NYC, a cake artist whose clients include celebrities and the Presidents of the United States. Sugako appreciates Colette for “introducing me to the art of cake.”

“Colette opened up the full scope of the art of cake design to me,” explains Sugako. “She showed me through her work, that there are no limits in the world of cake; you can express anything with the power of art, using a cake as the platform. It was an eye-opening experience for me.”

Sugako’s pâtisserie expertise, sophisticated palate and global vision of the past 20 years have been integrated with her artistic talent and innovation. Her background as a professional textile designer and color expert has proven to be an asset in understanding the complex interrelationships of ingredients and expression in sugar-craft. Signature wedding cakes and cookies, proprietary fondants, and handcrafted sugar arts delight A’Fondant customers.

Sugako says her philosophy remains simple. “When people see impressive artworks and then eat delicious sweets, everyone feels happy... I want to express the impression and excitement of seeing beautiful things, using cake as my medium. I put my heart and feeling into every creation, one cake at a time.”

Sugako recently opened A'Fondant, in Michigan, where she creates her delightful artwork.


After moving to the United States, Sugako’s talent beamed while revealing her passion and devotion to the arts of pâtisserie.
